It is the goal of Millington Intermediate School (MIS) to create an environment that is conducive to learning and free from disturbances. When students use their cell phone during school hours, these occurrences often distract the student, other students, and the teacher. While we understand many students do possess these devices, our district policy states, “Students may possess personal communication devices and personal electronic devices, including but not limited to cell phones, laptops, tablets, mp3 players, and cameras, on school property so long as such devices are turned off and stored in backpacks, purses or personal carry-alls.” (complete policy on district website – #6.312 under “Board” tab). Our students will be made aware of this policy and will be taught that MIS cell phone protocol is for students to leave all devices powered off and in their backpacks during school hours.
Students not in compliance with this policy will be subject to disciplinary action. Below is the protocol that will be implemented when students are not following district policy.
ADDITIONAL CELL PHONE VIOLATIONS WILL RESULT IN FURTHER DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS FOR WILLFUL DISOBEDIENCE.
IF A STUDENT REFUSES TO TURN OVER A CELL PHONE AFTER A VIOLATION, HE/SHE COULD BE SUSPENDED FOR WILLFUL DISOBEDIENCE PENDING AN ADMINISTRATOR/PARENT CONFERENCE.
*The MIS administration also reserves the right to add further disciplinary consequences depending on the context in which the device is used.
