MIS Dress Code

The following dress code standards will be observed at Millington Intermediate School.

1.  Pants/Shorts must be worn at the waist and must be an appropriate size.

2.  Skirts, dresses, and shorts must be no shorter than 4 inches above the knee.  This code remains even if shorts are worn under skirts/dresses.

3.  Jeans/Pants can have holes, however, if holes are above the knee then there needs to be covering underneath. Pants with holes that are too high like the upper thigh or hip/groin area (administrator discretion) are not allowed.  A good rule of thumb is not to have holes more than 4 inches above the knee.

4.  Tights may not be worn as pants UNLESS a shirt is worn to cover a student’s bottom

5.  Shirts, blouses, and dresses must completely cover the abdomen and back. Low-cut shirts and tank tops are prohibited. If a student reaches up and the shirt exposes the abdomen, it is inappropriate for school.

6.  Except for religious or medical purposes, head apparel (such as hoodies, hats, bandanas, etc.) may not be worn inside the school building. The principal may give permission for certain events (spirit day).

7.  Footwear is required and must be safe and appropriate for indoor and outdoor activity.  No house shoes.

8.  Clothing, as well as accessories such as backpacks, patches, jewelry, and notebooks, must not display (1) racial or ethnic slurs/symbols, (2) gang affiliations, (3) vulgar, subversive, or sexually suggestive content, OR (4) promotion of products which students may not legally buy; such as alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs.

9. Waist length sweaters, sweatshirts, and lightweight jackets (appropriately sized) can be worn inside school for warmth (no blankets are allowed).

10.  Prohibited items include:

(1)  sunglasses (except for health purposes) - students may wear them at recess but not within the school

(2)  headphones/ear buds cannot be worn as part of dress during school hours.

11.  Pajamas are not to be worn at school.

Any student not attired in accordance with the MIS Dress Code Policy shall be subject to the following consequences:

A. Students will correct the dress code violation

B.  Contact parents to bring a change of clothes.  Students will remain in our supervised study classroom until new clothes are brought.

C.  Consequences can be given for repeatedly not following dress code.
